About BlokeFest
For the second year running on one weekend in June we’re going to sing like blokes, act like men and get to be one of the guys. Our guiding philosophy is that singing is a truly manly activity as long as you sing the right stuff, in the right way, with the right men: think Shanties not shandies Lumberjack not Timberlake DiY not R’n'B. The plan is simple. We're going to meet at a Cotswold Pub with its own Campsite and the weekend unfolds like this . . . |
What?
Friday Evening - We're organising a p**s -up in a brewery.
Our good friends at The Stroud Brewery have invited us back again for a tour, a sing and some sampling.
We're hiring a coach for those who wish to fully partake of their wares. This might be a few quid extra.
Saturday - we'll be having numerous singing workshops and learning blokey songs from some well-known singing men (see below), we'll be roasting a locally grown pig for supper (not forgetting our veggie brethren) and then heading for the barn where the various men's groups - and anyone else who fancies entertaining us - will entertain the gathered throng.
Sunday - We'll have another short Sunday Morning Workshop and then we'll be hiking a couple of miles to the other end of the Sapperton Tunnel to another great pub. On the way we will conduct sonic experiments at lower frequencies, singing songs as we go and then gathering in the magnificent, victorian resonant space that is the Tunnel. We will then walk the final few hundred yards to The Daneway Inn where we will have a late lunch and sing to the assembled masses. We'll return for a final sing and break camp during the afternoon.

Where?
We will be returning to The Tunnel House Inn, which is a great pub between the Cotswold villages of Coates and Tarlton near Cirencester. It’s close to the source of the River Thames and sits beside the Thames and Severn Canal. It’s got a campsite next door and this year will have improved loos and washing facilities. There is also a barn where we’ll be singing to each other and most likely this year we will also have a marquee for workshops. The pub does great food and the beers are not bad either!

Why?
BlokeFest is the brainchild of The Magnificent AK47, (depicted in all their manly glory below) - they're the Singing Blokes of Ashton Keynes. They’ve been singing and performing their own brand of testosterone stoked tomfoolery since 2008 and want to share the adventure with other men. |

He composes all sorts of music for radio and TV and also chops wood! He will be leading workshops over the weekend and last year he wrote the superb (Alone in my) Shed for the event and he might even write something especially for us again this year. |
Dave StewartOur guest from 'up north', David leads four community choirs; the “Sheeptown Songsters” in Skipton, “Border harmony” in Barnoldswick, the “Courthouse Choir” and “Me-Time” in Otley.
He also arranges and leads singing events and holidays for singers, and is a singing tutor with HF Holidays. Last year his teaching of "Drystone Waller's Song" went down a storm with attendees. He sang in a trio “Going South” with Pete Ogley and Lynn Redmond, and now enjoys singing with Liz! |
